Control who can create projects

Allow selected staff to start new root projects without treating creation as authority over existing work.

What you'll achieve

Set and verify whether a person can create new root projects.

You'll end up with: Priya Sharma has Project Manager access and can start a new root project.

Creation is a narrow capability

Create projects has only Hidden and Edit. Edit allows a person to start a new root project. It does not grant authority over every existing project. A human creator becomes the new project's Owner as part of creation, but that ownership applies to the project they created.

Project row visibility still comes from all-project visibility, assignments, ownership, rules, allocations, and manual grants.

Compare the creation action

  1. 1

Save Viewer for Priya Sharma and start Preview.

  2. 2

Open Projects and confirm New Project is absent.

  3. 3

Stop Preview, save Project Manager, and preview again.

  4. 4

Open Projects and confirm New Project is visible.

    Step 4

Troubleshooting

  • Projects is visible but New Project is not. Reachability is universal for active members. The create action still requires Create projects Edit.
  • A creator cannot edit another project. Check their project grant or Project administration.
  • A newly created project has an Owner. Monument assigns the human creator as Owner in the creation transaction.
