Using the Timer
Track time in real-time with Monument's built-in timer โ start, pause, resume, and stop.
Overview
The timer lets you track time as you work, rather than logging it after the fact. It's accessible from anywhere in the app via the timer bar at the bottom of the screen.
Starting the Timer
- Click the play button in the timer bar at the bottom of the screen.
- Select a project and task to track against.
- Optionally enter a description.
- The timer starts counting immediately.
The elapsed time displays in the timer bar so you can see it from any page.
You can also start the timer from a task's context menu โ right-click a task and select Start Timer. The project and task are pre-filled.
Pausing and Resuming
- Click pause to temporarily stop the timer. The elapsed time is preserved.
- Click play again to resume from where you left off.
Pause duration is not included in the final time entry โ only active running time is counted.
Stopping the Timer
- Click the stop button in the timer bar.
- Review the time entry details:
- Duration โ the total elapsed time (excluding pauses)
- Project and task โ confirm the assignment
- Description โ add or update what you worked on
- Billable โ toggle if needed
- Click Save to create the time entry.
The entry appears on your time calendar for that day.
Timer Persistence
The timer state is saved locally, so it persists if you:
- Navigate to other pages in Monument
- Close and reopen your browser tab
- Refresh the page
If the timer runs past midnight, Monument automatically splits the entry across days โ one entry for each calendar day with the appropriate duration.
Discarding Timer Time
If you started the timer by mistake or don't want to save the entry:
- Click the stop button.
- In the save dialog, click Discard instead of Save.
The tracked time is discarded and no entry is created.
